New VHSL Conference Alignment
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) has reconfigured the athletic divisions in Virginia for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school years. Instead of AAA, AA, and A, Virginia now has 6 division, 6A represents those schools with the largest enrollment through 1A with schools with the lowest enrollment. Monacan is still in the Dominion District for the regular season of play. For the purpose of regional and state playoffs, Monacan is now in Conference 20 in Region 4A South. On this site, you will find documents from the VHSL that will explain some of the changes for each sport as well as how to understand the differences between the Dominion District and Conference 20.

Monacan is now in Region 4A South, Conference 20 with the following schools: Caroline High School, Hanover High School, Dinwiddie High School, JR Tucker High School, Midlothian High School and Glen Allen High School. These schools will have a playoff at the end of each sports season to determine the top two teams from the conference. Those two teams will proceed to play in an 8 team bracket for Region 4A South. The top two teams from the region will proceed to the Final Four State Championship. There is some deviation from this plan for some academic competitions and some low enrollment sports such as Lacrosse.

Finally, in some sports, Conference 20 member schools have decided to have preseason tournaments prior to the start of the regular season since many of these school have never played each other. For example, both the boys and girls basketball teams will have a "Conference 20 Tip Off Tournament" in December, prior to the start of the regular season.
As always, we know that, whether in Dominion District Play or Conference 20 play, Monacan Chiefs will be among the best athletes when it comes to quality play and good sportsmanship!
